The album Under Western Skies is a concept album of adult contemporary rock.  Although "Western" is in the title, these songs are not "Country" but there is a Western feel or to put it more exactly, a Hollywood feel. The songs are stylish, fresh and new. This is Adult Contemporary in its finest: Rock, Soft Rock, Soft Jazz and just great songs. Johnny Sierra has unlocked the Southern California feel.

The song Under Western Skies is smooth adult-contemporary (guitars sound like Twin Peaks a little or a spaghetti western) sung with heart-felt vocals like Jim Morrison,  even a jazzy Johnny Cash. The music is sultry and yearning, with haunting melodies, arpeggioed with classical guitar.

The song California Woman, inspired by Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World, is soulful, uplifting and inspiring, and yet, the chorus has this driving anthemic sound similar to A Flock of Eagles. California Woman is Johnny's anthem to all women, and it oozes with respect and love.

"My focus is always on the music and the love.  You can't do smooth and stylish without love.  The song You're Teasing Me, I didn't really want to put it on the album because it was very personal to me, but I couldn't NOT put it on the album because these are the melodies/harmonies I hear when I'm with my woman.  I had to bottle it up and share that."
